Lots of features in an smartphone or a computer are all stolen from various OS here are a few features which were stolen:
1. Notifications : Stolen from ---- webOS
Your LED light blinks up when you receive a new notification on your smartphone. It's a pretty neat feature that's been adopted by all the mobile operating systems out there, but Palm smartphones running webOS were the ones who brought this feature first.
2. Multi-tasking: Stolen from ---- webOS
Running multiple apps at the same time, where you could pause and jump from one application to another using a 'card' design principle, without closing the previous application, and closing them with just a swipe, has now become the way to multi task in mobile platforms. Said to be one of apple's biggest features in their release of iOS 7, this feature has been available in webOS right from the start.
3. Touch to Share: Stolen from ---- webOS
Near field Communication (NFC) has become popular off late, but initially the touch to share concept was brought in by webOS, where you could share websites, emails and photos between two devices through Bluetooth by simply tapping the devices together.
4. Creating Folders: Stolen from ---- iOS
To reduce the clutter among applications you have installed in your phone who follow the app drawer paradigm, categorizing them by creating different folders have been adopted. This feature was introduced with iOS 4, Apple nailed some originality here.
5. Flat design: Stolen from ----Windows
The flat design color palette that was introduced in iOS 7 and then later on in Android Jellybean has been the design principle for Windows Phone. Almost all the platforms seem to be headed to flat design.
6. Turn-by-turn Navigation: Stolen from ---- Google
turn-by-turn navigation was a pretty impressive feature where initially one had to pay for the services by other parties. It was first spotted on android 2.0 though.
7.Copy Paste: Stolen from ---- PalmOS
the cut, copy and paste function is a very necessary feature which is supposed to be present by default. It's been a Palm OS for a while, but it took other OSes a while to wake up. Android had it right from the start but was very limited and took a couple of years to patch a better version Symbian and Windows Phone added this feature as an update, introduced the copy paste feature in iphone OS 3 which was pretty late as well, claiming to have been developing a different UI for the feature because they didn't like the existing one. Oh, and they went on to patent the design.
Feel free to comment if something is wrong or if we have missed anything
